One Bull -- Hunkpapa. Percussion Rifle Cut Down to Blanket Gun.
Documentation done by Wendel Grangaard President of The Guns of History, Inc Sioux Falls, SD.

During Mr Grangaard's examination of this cut down percussion rifle which was turned into a blanket gun, he found the name One Bull written in togia on the left side of the stock, with "brother Sitting Bull." On the right side of the stock he also found "Chief One Bull - brother Sitting Bull." On the bottom of the stock is the brass button configuration of the Hunkpapa/Minneconjou Bad Bow Band of Walpokinyan.

One Bull was born in 1852, the half brother of Sitting Bull. One Bull married One Who Kills Assinaboine and they had one daughter, Plunderer of Spotted Horses, born in 1878.

Later in life, One Bull joined the Bad Bows Band of Wakpokinyan after he surrendered in 1881. He stayed with Sitting Bull on the Grand River until Sitting Bull's death in 1890. He then moved to Bullhead, South Dakota with Rain In The Face. One Bull died in 1947.

At the Battle of Little bighorn, One Bull rode with and protected Sitting Bull. They followed the battle against Reno as it progressed from the skirmish line to the Little Bighorn River. The men never went down to the Custer fight. One Bull delivered the important message from Sitting Bull to Gall after the battle: "Tell everyone... don't take anything. We are leaving in the morning for the Bighorn Mountains."

This blanket gun was repaired at some point with telegraph wire.
