After years of serving the Billings community, Rod Vetter made the decision to retire and close Express Pawn. That meant liquidating the entire contents of the business — every display case, every shelf, every back room — and doing it efficiently so he could move on to the next chapter.
Complete Asset Auction - Express Pawn store interior
Rod wasn't a stranger to National Auction USA. He'd been a longtime bidder on our platform, so he knew firsthand how our auctions work, how we treat buyers, and the kind of results we deliver. When it came time to sell, he picked up the phone and called us.
The challenge was straightforward: liquidate the entire inventory of a pawn shop — jewelry, watches, tools, electronics, musical instruments, sporting goods, muzzleloaders, store fixtures, and display cases — in a single auction cycle, get the best possible return, and leave Rod with a clean building.
Our team spent approximately two weeks on-site at Express Pawn cataloging, photographing, and lotting 1,589 individual items for the online auction. Every piece of jewelry was photographed. Every tool was described. Every lot was presented to give bidders the confidence to bid aggressively from behind a screen.
Once the catalog was live, we launched a 14-day multi-channel marketing campaign across 10+ platforms to drive qualified bidders to the auction. That campaign included email marketing to our 17,119-contact database, Facebook and Instagram advertising, Google search ads, radio broadcast across the Billings market, print advertising in the Billings Gazette, Facebook Marketplace and group promotion, Craigslist listings across six Montana markets, and additional outreach through Google Business Profile, Nextdoor, Pinterest, TikTok, and auction aggregator websites.
The campaign generated over 78,000 ad impressions and drove 9,913 unique visitors to the auction catalog. Of those visitors, 462 registered to bid — a 4.66% conversion rate — and 87% of those registered bidders actually placed at least one bid. That's not window shoppers. That's an engaged, competing buyer pool.

What 462 bidders looks like in a single room
This is what 462 bidders looks like in a single room. Every one of these people registered, competed, and bid on Express Pawn inventory — all from behind a screen through our online auction platform. And consider this: at a traditional live auction, each registered bidder typically brings one or two people with them. That means 462 registered bidders would represent 900 or more people showing up to bid on your assets. That's the kind of buyer competition online auction creates for a seller.
Rod trusted National Auction USA with the biggest sale of his business career because he'd seen it from the other side. After the final checkout day, Rod walked through the building and said:
"This building hasn't looked like this since I moved in. Thank you — glad it's almost over."
— Rod Vetter, Owner, Express PawnAnd it's not over yet. National Auction USA is now handling the sale of the Express Pawn real estate — taking Rod from complete inventory liquidation through property sale in a single relationship. That's full-service business transition, start to finish.
When you're closing a business, you have a few options. You can try to sell inventory piece by piece, which takes months and leaves you managing a business you're trying to leave. You can call a liquidation company that offers pennies on the dollar for a bulk buyout. Or you can put it to auction and let the market determine the value of every item through competitive bidding.
The Express Pawn auction proves what competitive bidding does for a seller. Nearly 1,500 lots sold in a single 14-day cycle. Rod didn't have to negotiate 255 individual sales. He didn't have to field lowball offers. He didn't have to keep the doors open for months hoping the right buyer walked in. The auction brought 462 qualified buyers to his inventory, those buyers placed 16,830 bids, and the market set the price on every lot.
Pickup was handled on-site at the Express Pawn location, and when it was over, the building was essentially cleared out — ready for Rod to hand over the keys and move on.
